PERROS-GUIREC
Waxwork museum 51, boulevard du Linkin / Tel : 02 96 91 23 45
A museum about the history and traditions of Lower Brittany. 10 rooms featuring famous people and important events. Historic documents and antique maps (dating from 1580 to 1840). Collection of Epinal’s pictures (first pictures from 1810 to 1830). Old posters (railway adverts from 1898 to 1934). Exhibition of wigs and costumes from 1850 to 1930.
Saint Jacques church A listed historical monument, this church in the centre of town is built of pink granite and is dedicated to Saint-Jacques. The tympanum, which has been seriously damaged, represents Christ between the eagle of Saint John and the lion of Saint Mark. In 1951, the church was extended with the addition of a false transept.
Notre Dame de la Clarté chapel The chapel plays an important role during the Grand Pardon on August 15th. Notre Dame de la Clarté is the patron saint of sailors. The chapel’s 18th century spire acted as a landmark for sailors lost in fog. Three model boats suspended in front of the chapel bear testimony to the sailors’ belief in the Virgin Saviour. The Chemin de Croix, a work by Maurice Denis, was donated by the master painter in 1931. The statue of the Virgin is made of stone and was crowned in 1946.
Kernivinen chapel Starting from Perros-Guirec church, take the road to Pleumeur-Bodou. Two kilometres later, at the La Clarté crossroads, turn left into the Kernivinen district and towards the chapel dedicated to Notre Dame de Pitié. The steeple dates from 1758. A pardon is held every year on the second Sunday after Easter.
Saint Guirec chapel and its Oratory Situated in the gorgeous bay of Ploumanac'h, sheltered by pink granite rock, and marking the place where the Breton saint of Perros-Guirec, Saint-Guirec, is said to have arrived, is the 14th century Saint-Guirec chapel. Close to the chapel on Ploumanac'h beach stands the Oratory protecting the granite statue of Saint-Guirec. Young girls who wish to marry within the year must stick a needle into the poor monk’s nose, which explains why he has a flat face.
Cristian Gad Sculpture Park
Situated on the north-east corner of Ploumanac’h junction, this park with attractions for children, offers 18 monumental granite sculptures.
